第1，用手指敲。指关节敲所选的木制品，如果声音清脆的就表示比较干燥，湿的声音相对比较的沉闷。

第2，听木工刨的声音，推刨声音清脆，刨出来的木材光滑、刨花发热的说明是干的，反之就是湿的。

第3，捏一把木屑，自己感觉是否干燥，开好的木料下面放一张面巾纸，第二天看看是否潮湿，也是基本判断出木材的干燥程度。

第4：掂重量，木材经过自然风干后，自然要比含水的木材轻。

防腐木材即便制作成家具，仍会与所处环境中的空气交换水分，并随着相对湿度变化收缩和膨胀。当空气极度干燥时，家具会流失水分并收缩，家具表面可能会出现裂缝。相反，当湿度增加时，家具便会吸收水分微微膨胀，从而恢复原状。
